What is Metabolic Syndrome?
Metabolic syndrome is a serious combination of multiple diseases. It is the coexistence of at least three serious diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases, and stroke, which are also associated with obesity. It usually starts with insulin resistance. It is a very serious picture in which systemic factors such as diabetes mellitus or glucose intolerance, dyslipidemia, coronary artery disease and hypertension are observed together in the later stages.
Obesity Equals Metabolic Syndrome
The risk of metabolic syndrome is directly proportional to a high body mass index. Its incidence increases with age and its treatment may become increasingly difficult. If the weight is controlled, a decrease in insulin resistance, improvements in blood sugar and lipids begin to be seen.
People with metabolic syndrome need to start diet, exercise, lifestyle change, and medication. However, in cases where these are insufficient, the application of metabolic and bariatric surgery methods can prevent the worsening of the diseases, permanent damages and reduce the risk of death.
